The research training group is a collaboration of several disciplines: Pre- and Protohistory, Classical Archaeology, Provincial Roman Archaeology, Christian Archaeology, Byzantine studies, Islamic Archaeology, Egyptology, Anthropology of the Americas, Ancient History, Anthropology, and Historical Geography. The periods of interests range from the Neolithic until the Medieval Period between Mongolia and the Andes, with a regional focus on the European and Mediterranean regions. In accordance with the topic of the research training group there is a cooperation with the Economic and Geographical Institutes.
